The months of July and August are always dedicated to culture in Vienna. Flocks of visitors crowd the town hall square as the film festival’s series of events begins again. The legendary summer cinema offers its audience not only films of classical concerts, dance performances, operas and operettas, but also live music broadcasts of jazz and pop concerts. Besides the Danube Island Festival and the Summerstage on the Danube Canal, the Film Festival on Rathausplatz is the summer event during your vacation in Vienna.

For the 31st time, the popular Culture Open Air will take place at the City Hall Square in Vienna from July 03 to September 04, 2021. With free admission, up to 5,000 people can be seated here to watch live broadcasts of cultural events from a 300 m² screen. Enjoy classical music every evening for 65 days with renowned operas such as Madame Butterfly or films of live concerts by sought-after pop stars such as Ed Sheeran, Sting or Nena.

Culinary delights are also provided. International and national top chefs will spoil you with a wide variety of dishes. The variety ranges from fish and meat dishes to pasta and delicate vineyard snails.

Children’s program & live music by local musicians

In addition to a varied cultural program for adults, as of 2018 a lot is also offered for children. At the Children’s Opera Festival in City Hall Park, your little ones will experience age-appropriate cultural enjoyment in fun children’s musical productions. And for those hungry for exercise, there is an excellent sports and activity program. In addition to a visit to the Prater, a welcome change in your family vacation in Vienna.

And if you prefer a live event to a broadcast, performances by local musicians are also available as part of the film festival. Morning visitors experience an entertaining start to the day at one of the Jazz Frühschoppen.
