Kärntner Straße & Mariahilfer Straße

Visitors in search of luxury brands should head to the Kohlmarkt – Graben – Kärntner Straße area in the centre of the city. These three world-famous shopping streets can be reached quickly and easily from The Harmonie using tram line D.

The most well-known shopping street in Vienna is the Mariahilfer Straße. Located in the 7th district, it is the longest shopping road in the city. From The Harmonie it is just a short ride on the U2 underground railway line (get off at the stop “Museumsquartier”).

The side roads branching off the Mariahilfer Straße in the 7th district are full of designer boutiques with lots of creative, quirky and eye-catching creations, many of which are made by hand. These boutiques have joined forces as part of the initiative “7tm”.

Spittelberg arts district

Also close to the Mariahilfer Straße is Spittelberg. This former red-light district is now home to many small galleries and has one of Vienna’s most charming Christmas markets in winter.

Naschmarkt – Vienna’s most famous food market

The Naschmarkt, which can be accessed via line U4 on the underground (get off at the stop “Kettenbrückengasse”) is the city’s most famous food market. At weekends it also hosts a flea market with lots of bargains to be had. Even if you don’t need to do any shopping, its bustling market stalls and charming little cafés make it well worth a visit.

Goldenes Quartier & Tuchlauben

Tuchlauben is the name given to a series of archways in what is one of the wealthiest parts of Vienna. They take their name from the cloth merchants and cloth cutters (“Tuch” is German for “cloth”) based here centuries ago. Today these artisans have been replaced by flagship stores belonging to some of the world’s most famous designer labels: Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, etc. The Tuchlauben, together with the Bognergasse and Am Hof, form part of what is known as the Goldenes Quartier, with the famous Kohlmarkt road just around the corner.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Harmonie in the heart of Vienna’s 9th district.
